Calling the Independent Domestic Violence Advocates

Refuge's independent domestic violence advocates work to support a woman through the criminal justice system. The service we offer is confidential and free.

At refuge we understand that the legal system can be complex and intimidating. To support a woman, the Refuge team will work alongside all the agencies that she will come in to contact with. This means that we can:

  • Work with the police and other agencies to ensure that they have sufficient evidence to secure a conviction
  • Liaise on her behalf with the police and court team to help her progress her case
  • Help her to assess any safety risks that she might be experiencing or might likely to experience
  • Help her with other related matters such as injunctions, occupations orders, or provide information about housing law, immigration law and child contact orders.

Our independent advocates also offer specialist advocacy support for women with a variety of different needs. We recognise that some women are more isolated that others due to language, disability, cultural issues or age.

Please do call the Refuge independent advocacy team to discuss in confidence any fears and concerns you may have. We can give you information about your options and help you keep safe.
