Re-modelling of Domestic Abuse Services from 1st April 2012

From 1st April 2012, the new domestic abuse services model launches in Warwickshire. Domestic Abuse Refuge Services will be delivered by Refuge and the Domestic Abuse Support Service will be delivered by Home Group Limited (Stonham: Care and support part of Home).

Introduction
From 1st April 2012, the new domestic abuse services model launches in Warwickshire. Domestic Abuse Refuge Services will be delivered by Refuge and the Domestic Abuse Support Service will be delivered by Home Group Limited (Stonham: Care and support part of Home).

The re-modelled services will increase the range of services available in Warwickshire providing access through a single point of contact with clear referral pathways between services for victims and referring agencies.

The services provided are as follows:

Refuge Service:

  • 18 Units of refuge accommodation spread across the county


Domestic Abuse Support Service:

The service will include:

  • Identification, assessment and case management
  • Open access advice and information
  • Specialist domestic abuse helpline
  • Specialist support for male victims and Black and Minority Ethnic communities
  • Housing related floating support
  • Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy                           
  • Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference coordination
  • Sanctuary Scheme management

The commissioning of new domestic abuse services for Warwickshire follows an independent strategic review of domestic abuse support services in Warwickshire. The strategic review process including procurement of the new services has involved:

  • Warwickshire County Council
  • Warwickshire Probation Trust
  • NHS Warwickshire
  • Warwickshire Police
  • District and Borough Housing Departments

 

The new contracts bring together services currently provided by Warwickshire Domestic Violence Support Services, Refuge, Coventry and Warwickshire Community Safety Scheme, Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire County Council.

 

 

The New Providers

Refuge established the world’s first refuge for women and children escaping domestic abuse in 1971. They have grown to become the country’s largest specialist provider of domestic violence services and the leading voice in the campaign to end abuse. Refuge currently supports over 1,600 women and their children in their services on any given day. They provide independent domestic and sexual violence advocacy services, refuges, outreach, floating support and culturally specific accommodation and outreach for BAMER women and children. Nationally Refuge manages 45 refuges, working in partnership with 24 Social Landlords in 16 local authorities. Refuge currently provide the Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy Service and 2 refuges in Warwickshire.

 

Home have been providing specialist services for victims of domestic abuse for over 20 years.   They are the second largest single provider of domestic abuse services including three BME-specific refuges.  Home are also the leading provider of support to male victims. Home currently deliver a number of services to homeless people throughout Warwickshire.
