Within the council, as part of the Community Protection Department’s role of leading the council’s contribution to a safer Warwickshire - the Community Safety Unit and Drug and Alcohol Action Team are responsible for:

  • helping to reduce crime and disorder;
  • helping to reduce the fear of crime, and for;
  • commissioning services to address the harm caused by drugs and alcohol.

There are four broad strands to this work;

  • Leading on countywide crime reduction initiatives. This includes managing a multi-agency team to tackle domestic violence, coordinating work on anti-social behaviour and the strategies for the Safer and Stronger Communities fund and Local Public Service Agreements 2.
  • Leading the County Council’s contribution to district-based partnerships. These Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships, known as CDRPs, have a statutory responsibility to tackle crime and the causes of crime in each district. WCC ensures that appropriate County Council contributions are made to this work.
  • Leading and supporting the partnership to address harm caused by drugs. WCC work with partners to commission services to prevent substance misuse, to treat users, both adults and young people, and to reduce criminal activity caused by a drug habit.
  • Leading and supporting the partnership to address the harm caused by alcohol. WCC have led partnership work to develop an alcohol harm reduction strategy and have responsibility to ensure that this action plan is delivered.
